St. Jean Baptiste, MB – BSI Insurance making a splash in St. Jean Baptiste
The town of St. Jean Baptiste, which is located 65 km south of Winnipeg off Highway 75, is now home to a beautiful splash pad for their community. The project started three years ago, shortly after the closure of the curling club. That is when the RM of Montcalm approached Stephanie and Jason Jablonski asking them if they would be interested in spearheading the Splash Park Project.
The two made up a committee adding 3 more volunteers and started planning. After many hours of hard work filling out grant applications, attending monthly meetings, and organizing fundraisers, the team accomplished their goal in the summer of 2019.
Many volunteers have helped throughout the years including a community day where they saw 50 people help lay down sod around the splash pad. It’s important to note that the renowned ATV St. Jean Derby, a weekend of 200+ volunteers, played an integral part in helping fund the Splash Park.
“The splash park project has been a great addition to our community.” Said Jason Jablonski, Board of Directors/ Splash Park Committee. “We were blessed to have the resources to put this all together so quickly and have volunteers step up when we needed it. In a small town, there’s often limited activities to do, but the splash park allows for a very simple recreational activity with very little maintenance and day to day upkeep. The smiles on the kids’ faces and the laughter you hear from a block away is the best way of us knowing that this project was worth its time and effort!”
Ever since they turned on the water, the splash pad has seen lots of traffic from locals and neighbouring communities. Future plans are a 30 x 40 picnic shelter and tables, as well as a play structure.
