Teulon, Manitoba – At ONE Insurance, we believe that even the smallest actions can spark life-saving change. As part of our Because We Care initiative, we proudly partnered with the Teulon Rockwood Fire Department to launch a fire safety campaign by purchasing smoke detectors for students.

Earlier this month, 125 smoke detectors were distributed to students in Grades 1 through 4 at Teulon Elementary School. Firefighters, along with representatives from ONE Insurance, personally delivered the detectors to students, who then brought them home—many to households that may not have had working smoke alarms or fully understood their importance.

“When a child comes home with a smoke detector and says a firefighter gave it to them and explained why it matters, families tend to take it seriously,” said Kevin Algner, firefighter for the Teulon Rockwood Fire Department. “This kind of donation from ONE Insurance helps us reach families who might not otherwise prioritize fire safety.”

But for ONE Insurance, this initiative was more than a purchase smoke detectors—it was a hands-on educational effort. By engaging children directly, we’re helping to build a culture of safety that starts at home and spreads throughout the community.

The campaign brought together passionate local leaders, including Principal Heidi Reeb, firefighters Kevin Algner and Tanner Wilton, and even Sparky the Fire Dog. Together, with the help of Rey Girardin and Theresa Cronin from ONE Insurance, they delivered smoke detectors and a powerful message: Fire safety begins with awareness.
