Support and Guidance When You Need It Most
Following the extreme weather event that impacted many parts of Manitoba, we understand this is a stressful and uncertain time for many of our customers, communities, and families.
First and foremost — we’re here for you.
Due to the high volume of claims, there may be delays before an adjuster is able to connect with you. In the meantime, there are important steps you can take now to help protect your property and move your claim forward as smoothly as possible.
What You Can Do Right Now
1. Take steps to prevent further damage
Your safety comes first, but if it is safe to do so, begin mitigating any additional damage:
- Set up fans and dehumidifiers to dry affected areas
- Remove standing water using pumps or wet vacs
- Move furniture and belongings off the floor or elevate them on blocks
- Increase airflow wherever possible
Taking these steps can help reduce the overall impact and may be important for your claim.
2. Document everything thoroughly
Before removing damaged materials or disposing of items:
- Take clear photos and videos of all affected areas
- Capture both wide shots and close-ups of damage
- Document any structural impacts and water levels
The more detailed your documentation, the better we can support your claim.
3. Record damaged contents
For personal belongings:
- Identify items that are not restorable
- Create a list of those items
- Take photos of each item
Keeping an organized record will help streamline the claims process.
4. Identify where the damage came from
If possible, make note of how the damage occurred. This is an important part of your claim:
- Did water enter through windows or doors?
- Through the foundation, ground, or walls?
- Or through a sump pit or sewer backup?
Even your best observations can be helpful for your adjuster.
5. Arrange temporary repairs if needed
If your home has been impacted by hail or wind:
- Cover exposed areas (such as roof decking or broken sections)
- Arrange temporary repairs yourself or through a professional
If your loss is covered, these reasonable emergency repairs may be reimbursed.
